Alligators In the Pool |
Hello my friends, my name is Stan Hitchcock and I'm an old road running, guitar picking, sad song singing veteran of the Country Music business, soon to celebrate 38 years in service as a professional entertainer, musician and Cable Television founder.
This area of Heart to Heart is dedicated to the great men and women who created Country Music, those heroes of entertainment that traveled the Road in non-air-conditioned cars, four in the back seat-three in the front, with the doghouse bass tied on top and no time to stop to sleep....gotta get to the next gig.
Those like Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Little Jimmy Dickens, Stringbean, Hank Williams, Red Foley, Hank Locklin, Hank Snow, Minnie Pearl, Johnny and Jack, Kitty Wells, Eddy Arnold, Pee Wee King, Don Reno and Red Smiley, The Carter Family, The Duke Of Paducah, Uncle Dave Macon, The Fruit Jar Drinkers, The Possum Hunters, Bob Wills, Hank Thompson, Rod Brasfield, Johnny Horton, Slim Whitman, Wynn Stewart, Patsy Cline, Martha Carson, Flatt and Skruggs, The Stanley Brothers, and others of that generation.
Then came Jim Reeves, Carl Smith, Faron Young, The Wilburn Brothers, Mel Tillis, Roger Miller, Willie Nelson, The Browns with Jim Ed, Porter Waggoner, Billy Walker, Don Gibson, George Hamilton IV, Bobby Bare, Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee, Tammy Wynette, Wanda Jackson, Jeannie Pruitt, Jan Howard, Carl and Pearl Butler, Waylon, Mac Wiseman, The Osborne Brothers, Jeanne Sealy, Marty Robbins, Carl Belew, Buck Owens and so many others... great singers, great musicians and great people.
Well, the one thing that I am proudest of as I reflect on my career in music is the opportunity I have had to actually be friends with these heroes, and share stages, dressing rooms, buses, back seats, old hotels, The Old Ryman, great music, road stories, romances, heartaches, highways and high lonesome. I have lived with my heroes and I want to share the good times with you......yeah, let an old road warrior tell you a few stories, have a few laughs, miss some of those already gone and celebrate the music.
I will add stories to this location from time to time, and keep the old ones on file for you to call up as you will. I love the life of music that I have been privileged to live, and I wish more people would share the history of what It was like back when...you know, "the good old days" before they moved the Opry to a Theme Park and kicked Hank Williams off the show and down to Shreveport's "Louisiana Hayride", told Bob Wills that he couldn't have his drums on stage, and told Elvis that he needed to go back to Memphis cause he wasn't gonna make it (the same group that later told Ralph Emery he was too old, and kicked him off TNN). Yeah buddy, we tell it like it was....no holds barred...no stone left unturned.
I appreciate you stopping by our site, and I would really like to hear from you.....why don't you send me an e-mail at stan@hitchcockcountry.com if you have anything you want to chat about. Give me a holler and I'll try to answer your questions, or direct you to someone that can.
By the way, all of these stories and more can be found in my book "At The Corner Of Music Row and Memory Lane." More information can be found at The Country Store.
Your friend,
Stan
